  • Witcher developers swear off DRM for future games

At this years Game Developers Conference Marcin Iwinski, CEO of CD Projekt Red, said the company will no longer use DRM (Digital Rights Management) in any upcoming games.

During his presentation at the GDC Iwinsky stated, “Every subsequent game we will never use any DRM anymore, it’s just over-complicating things”. DRM is used by developers and publishers in an attempt to stop their game from being pirated and shared online. Although this defense measure is used by many leading publishers, it rarely stops a game from being leaked online.

Iwinsky said that after releasing ‘The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings’ for PC (shown on the right), it was “cracked in two hours”. Making the protection useless and making it more complicated for legitimate users of the game.
