If you have been putting off buying Star Wars: The Old Republic, you must not really want to try the game, Bioware is giving you more than enough opportunities to try the game on the cheap.
SWTOR currently has a “free-trial” with a level cap, the full-game is on sale for $19.99 at Amazon this week and eventually the game will switch to a “free-to-play” scenario
That’s the story from GamesIndustry International, who spoke with EA head Frank Gibeau who said, “We’re going to be in the business from a long-term standpoint so absolutely we’re going to embrace free access, free trial, ultimately some day we can move in and embrace that model”.
That doesn’t mean there won’t be subscribers, “I don’t think subscriptions ever go away, but when you have an IP as broad as Star Wars, we’re definitely going to look at opportunities to grow that business and look at different ways of bringing customers in and serving them,” Gibeau stated.
So if that is your last-ditch attempt in playing the game, you might be waiting for a while but eventually it looks like you’ll get your way. Of course, by then there might be 10 other MMO’s you are interested in. It just comes down to how dedicated you are to the force.
