Sony and Nico Nico have announced a new video service set to go live on the PS Vita later this afternoon alongside the Playstation Store update. You can watch a “features” video and learn how you can watch E3 2012 on your PS Vita.
James Spahn, CEO of Nico Nico, made the official announcement on the Playstation.blog earlier today. Spahn stated that the new app will “allows you to view and overlay time stamped comments on live or uploaded videos”. If you haven’t heard of the video service it may be because it is popular in other countries…like Japan, the home of Sony.
Spahn said that Nico Nico “consistently ranks within the top 15 most-viewed sites in Japan”. A pretty impressive statistic to say the least. This will be Nico Nico
s big launch into the North American video community.
Nico Nico even has its first big event to showoff it’s possibilities, like E3 2012. Spahn gave the news that PS Vita users will be able to watch the “beta livestream of the PlayStation press conference directly on your PS Vita”.
Other future plans include the ability to “broadcast directly” from the PS Vita, as well as upload and view your own videos on the service
