January 16, 2024 — Wargaming today announced that Chinese tanks are making their way to the World of Tanks battlefields, offering players the ability to maneuver and master these beasts from the East. Update 8.3 will go live in Europe and Southeast Asia today and North America tomorrow, while the Korean audience will start testing the new tech tree starting January 21.
The game’s latest installment adds seventeen steel machines used by the Chinese People’s Liberation Army in mid-twentieth century warfare. Chinese tank designers combined the best qualities of existing designs from foreign engineers, modernizing and upgrading their technology to build some of the fiercest tanks of their time. As a result, the Chinese tank fleet consisted of modifications of classical models, as well as original combat vehicles.
The lower tiers of the new tech tree feature a hotchpot of various foreign designs, including the first Japanese-made tank in the game — the Type 97 Chi-Ha. Heavy Soviet influences are reflected in the top-tier tanks, which also include a number of original Chinese models, some of which never went into mass production.
A fearsome opponent, the Chinese tanks are equipped with decent armor, impressive mobility and accurate guns with high damage potential making them a force to be reckoned with.
