Final Fantasy XIV game producer, Naoki Yoshida, has been updating fans on the progress of the title in open letters addressed to fans. Now he is ready to talk about the beta and clear up some details.

The beta testers for the PC version of the game have been eagerly awaiting their chance to enter the world of Final Fantasy XIV once again, and the beta is just weeks away. Yoshida started off the letter in a similar style to ones written in the past, outlining some of the cosmetic changes that new 2.0 ‘A Realm Reborn’ version has over the previous build. In this case it was about update changes to the races of the game.

As for the beta there are a few points to clear up, mainly how player’s will gain access and what the beta will entail. First of all the game is still not finished, even simple elements like character creation isn’t in its final form so what players will be able to do will be humbled by the development process. Yoshida did promise that, “all races will be available for testing” when the beta starts, and gave fans a screen showing a Hyur Midlander female.

The first phase of beta testing “will begin in February” according to Yoshida. Things like “192 shades” of hair color are holding back the player customization, so you have that to look forward too. Yoshida states that “FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn will rise up from the ashes like a phoenix and soar towards success” in the letter, in an attempt to give stalwart fans some hope as they wait a little longer.
