Ouya to change initial controller design per user feedback
January 24th 2013 By Sarah Fox contact email , twitter
The team behind the highly anticipated console ‘OUYA’ have announced that they will be changing the initial controller design, based on feedback from developers that have started working on providing games for the console. Here are the details.
On a blog post from the official OUYA blog, the developers stated that they designed the controller to be as “fast and precise as possible”. This may be the case but as the team at OUYA pointed out, they have received “a ton of emails, comments, videos and forum posts” asking for changes about the controller.
OUYA developers said that a lot of these adjustments were already in the works stating, “A lot of the feedback underscored things we were already changing, some comments were totally new, but ALL were great to hear”.
The new changes include an adjustment to the D-pad on the controller, “We’ve changed our D-pad from a ‘disc’ to a ‘cross’ style” a developer posted on the blog earlier today. This ‘cross-style’ is popular in many third-person peripherals and has quickly become the most popular layout among brands.
Other changes include better grip on the thumbsticks, and a rubber top will be added. As for the touch pad, “It will be more responsive!” promises the developers at OUYA who are working on the console. Also it was noted that, “In ‘Settings, you can set the cursor speed to the fastest level to make it even more responsive”.
Triggers and the battery bay have also been reworked. It’s always nice to know when developers are quick to respond to the needs of consumers are quick to take action based on customer feedback. You can check out the official post below.
