Earlier today President Obama asked Congress to fund new research that would study the overall effect, if any, playing violent video games have on children. Here are the latest details.
The President stated, “We don’t benefit from ignorance” in his speech that outlined future steps that he plans to take in an effort to curb gun-violence in America. This new plan to alter curent gun-control laws in our country stems from the Newtown school shooting in Connecticut that happened last month.
The center of the proposal focused on new gun control legislation and procedures that involve purchasing a firearm. Video games were mentioned however when the President stated, “Congress should fund research on the effects violent video games have on young minds”. The President then concluded, “We don’t benefit from ignorance. We don’t benefit from not knowing the science”.
Other preventative measures that were outline focused more on background checks and a ban on assault rifles. Over the years countless studies have been done on the subject of violent video-games and the effect they have on children, yet no link has been put forward to the courts that would alter any current sale or availability to minors
