  • Nintendo announces digital distribution plans for Wii U and 3DS

     
    Nintendo made a few announcements late last night regarding the digital-distribution of their titles for the Wii U and the 3DS handheld. 
     
    Nintendo president Satoru Iwata, announced that the company will sell “full” versions of both Nintendo 3DS and Wii U titles digitally. The first Nintendo 3DS title to be a digital-download is the recently detailed ‘Super Maio Bros. 2′.
     
    For the Wii U, Nintendo will still offer its games through retail outlets but also allow users to download them digitally. Retailers will also sell download code for these games. This will allow retailers the ability to add pre-order bonuses or special promotions of their own and not have to only compete with Nintendo.
     
    If successful, you can imagine this is how games will make the transfer from media to digital, with retailers and consoles selling digital-content both with promotions, sales and other exclusive bonuses attached.
     
    In other Wii U news, Nintendo said that although they will be showing the new console at E3, do not expect a price yet. Iwata stated, “We will showcase the final format, and discuss the details and the software lineup for this year at E3 2012,
