With a greater focus on the Apple TV planned in the future and a new Ouya Box being developed for Android, has Apple finally decided to put games on the big screen? A new patent, which was published earlier today, has turned up online showing new plans for the iPhone and a new controller.
The patent shows the familiar iPhone as a Universal remote for Near Field Communication. Another image shows a very familiar scene, a handheld controller that look a lot like the PS3 Dualshock. Apple has not commented on the found patents, but this could be the first images of how games will be played on a television through the Apple TV and not through just mirroring other iOS devices.
The Apple TV would need to be updated to work with the controllers on screen, though that could be done with a simple firmware update. You can also see images of the iPhone being allowed to select multiple controllers (including using the iPhone itself as a controller).
As of right now it’s just a patent, companies can file hundreds or thousands of patents most of which are never used. We will keep you update as more information is brought forward but right now it’s nice to know that Apple is at least considering making games easier to play.
