Microsoft unveils its new line of Windows 8 accessories

We recently reported that Windows 8 and the Windows Surface Tablet will both launch on October 26, 2012. Today Microsoft released new information on the stylish accessories that will also be launched alongside the new operating System. 
 
It is all part of the 30th anniversary for Microsoft Hardware. These accessories bring a bold new look to Microsoft, as well as some key-functions and wireless technology. Two new keyboards and two new mice which are Bluetooth enabled will make their way to the consumer market.
 
The devices are shown below and called, “The Wedge Touch Mouse”, the “Wedge Mobile Keyboard”, the “Sculpt Touch Mouse”, and the “Sculpt Mobile Keyboard”. Also releasing on October 26, 2023 are new Windows 8 gestures for the Microsoft Touch Mouse.
 
In a prepared statement sent to the press, Microsoft talks about the new hardware and the new design of the accessories:
 
“It’s an exciting time for the whole company for lots of reasons, but this is something we’re thrilled about and we can’t wait to see people’s reactions,” says Brett Kelleran, general manager of Microsoft Hardware.
 
“For 30 years, we’ve been creating products designed to light up features in Microsoft software and making it easier to get things done. It’s part of our DNA,” Kelleran says. “In that way, it’s fitting that we are showcasing our first set of hardware products designed and optimized for Windows 8. It’s the reason why our group was formed and, in these products, that’s shining through.”
 
“When we use authentic materials, we’re able to connect with customers in a way that’s more than just appearance level. It’s a level of authenticity and pride in craftsmanship that you would expect from very high-end jewelry that you can get in consumer electronics,” Kim says. “It compliments that lifestyle our customers are looking for.”
 


 
The Microsoft Wedge Touch Mouse will retail at $69.95 and is “designed for the mobile lifestyle” according to the press release but will also continue to have four-way touch scrolling and navigation. It’s Bluetooth-enabled, and features BlueTrack Technology, It also has “backpack mode,” which means it will power down and sleep along with the computer it’s paired to, saving battery life.
 
The slim Microsoft Wedge Mobile Keyboard will retail at $79.95 and will work for your tablet. The keyboard features Windows 8 Hot Key, media keys, Bluetooth technology, and a durable cover to protect it – and your tablet – from scratches. The cover also converts into a tablet stand.
 
The Sculpt Touch Mouse will retail at $49.95 and “is finely tuned” for Windows 8, including a four-way touch scroll strip for navigating up and down, left and right, and swiping through windows and documents.
 
The Microsoft Sculpt Mobile Keyboard will retail at $49.95. Last but not least is the The Microsoft Touch Mouse which will cost $79.95 and has been “updated specifically for use with Windows 8 to incorporate finger swipes and movements that allow for navigation, switching through apps, and zooming in and out”.
