Guild Wars 2 launches ‘Living Story’ missions today, learn what they are
January 31st 2013 By Sarah Fox contact email , twitter
Tucked within the ‘Fire and Frost’ update that went live yesterday on the popular MMO ‘Guild Wars 2′, were new ‘Living Story’ missions. If you are unclear how to participate in these unique events, Andy McCoy offers some help.
McCoy is the Narrative Designer in Guild Wars 2 and the perfect man to address the community. On a post to players McCoy explains that the Living Story will be new events, both dynamic and connected to a single narrative thread. The whole point of the ‘Living Story’ is to bring the world of Tyra to life. Now the townspeople and cities that you pass along your way while selling your bags of goods, will start making decisions and start causing events on their own.
The Living Story is simultaneously transitory and permanent. As the story arcs play out, the tale evolves. Each portion of the Living Story narrative will only be available for a certain period of time, yet it will have repercussions in the world and upon the people living in it. The occurrences in the Living Story leave their mark—both scars and flowerbeds—and these wounds and blessings are permanent.
Now these are events that will permanently change Tyria and you can be apart of that change, so when new warriors come to you in the future you can say, “Ah yes, I remember that day, I killed 100 Skritt with nothing but a broken helmet and a club”. It’s a very interesting idea and one that will be interesting to see pan out over the next few months.
The living story will be narrated by the ‘Heralds’ in the major cities, they tell you what is going on right now, so you can go and participate. So catch up on the idea of ‘Living Story’ and get out there and defend Tyria.
