Square Enix unveiled the much anticipated redesign of Final Fantasy XIV this week, now called ‘Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn’. With the announcement came a treasure trove of future concept-art, new upcoming content and technical improvements.

To guide existing players through the new design of Final Fantasy XIV, the developers have listed a wealth of information on the project. One of the top subjects on PS3 players minds, is when they will be able to get their hands on the game.

On the official forums, set up to answer questions and detail the 2.0 upgrade, Square Enix gives a launch window for the PS3 integration:

Between October and December of 2012, we plan to integrate the current service and the coming PlayStation®3 version into the all-new FINAL FANTASY XIV. At this time, a second free trial period will also be offered.

Among our new plans is the fundamental reworking of in-game maps. As part of this process, there will be a period required for switching over to a new client and new servers, after which there will be a large transfer of data when service is brought back online. After the new client is completed, new software for the PC version will be distributed online, and can be acquired free of charge. Character data and progress for players already playing the PC version will also be preserved, allowing those players to continue using their in-game avatars. Another announcement will be made in the future as the day on which the new FINAL FANTASY XIV software will become available for download draws near, and the PlayStation®3 system version officially released.

That being said “Ocotber 14, 2012″ is a very important date for the game, as many of the updates and new features will begin on that day. This according to a “Road Map” that was posted on the official forums, detailing the updates to the system.

Square Enix has also disclosed that the beta for the PS3 is currently planned for November, that according to a timeline released by Square Enix (shown below)

The Final Fantasy development team has been referred to as the “new organization” after team was reassembled following the failed launch of the original title. Square Enix has stated that it will no longer refer to the team in that way, ” We will no longer be referring to the “new organization” of the team. It is now simply the FINAL FANTASY XIV team”.
