  • Fact Check: Lost Planet 3 Edition

Capcom brought a lot of excitement to the E3 2012 expo this year with its vast array of new titles. On top of that list is the next installment in the ‘Lost Planet’ franchise ‘Lost Planet 3′.

The title is set to hit the usual list of platforms (PC, PS3 and Xbox 360) in early 2013. Capcom put a major focus on the planet itself (E.D.N. III). Capcom describes the planet as “harsher than ever before” and promises “new truths” to be revealed about the planet itself. Lost Planet 3 is being developed on the ‘Unreal Engine 3′ and aims to create a “visually stunning and unique terrain”, one that is looking to surpass any of the previous Lost Planet titles.

New to the series is Jim Peyton, who comes to E.D.N. III, from Earth, on a contract with Neo Venus Construction (NEVEC) to work one of their rigs. The company is currently prepping the planet to be colonized and Jim is coming for work. Things begin to heat up for Jim when he accepts a dangerous, but profitable, mission to collect more “Thermal Energy” for NEVEC. The current supplies at the Coronis base where Jim is stationed are running low and the construction company won’t be able to produce their promise work on-schedule without the natural resource found on the planet. They offer a large sum of money and an “early ticket home” to anyone that helps, which is why Jim agrees.

As for gameplay, you can expect a mixture of two popular methods ‘first-person’ and ‘third-person’. Capcom states that “outside the rig, the action switches to third person with Jim at the mercy of the elements. He’ll need to battle against hostile enemies with a mix of gun and melee based combat while also surviving the forces of nature.”. The weather plays a crucial role in game, Capcom made it a point to say, “changing weather system of E.D.N. III affects the way you play with conditions that create an imposing environment”

Capcom also briefly talked about the multiplayer-side of the game promisisng a “number of multiplayer modes” though they did not go into detail at this time.

You can expect to hear more about ‘Lost Planet 3′, both the single-player and the multiplayer, over the coming months.
