CCP Games is set to overtake the action MMO community with their cross-platform hit ‘Dust 514′. With a release date later this year and a closed beta in April, here are the facts everyone should know.
DUST 514 is being developed by CCP games, the same company that brought you EVE Online and both games will share the same universe and cross-play with one another. The game itself is a First Person Shooter MMO that combines strategic planetary conquest with fierce frontline-combat on the ground.
The game has the unique player-experience of combining two gaming platforms (PS3 and PC) and two separate games (Dust 514 and EVE Online) together. Players will take the role of battle-harden mercenaries who will battle for control of planets’ resources, treasures and land. While players fight on the front lines of this intergalactic war, EVE Online pilots will battle for “interstellar control”. This is what creates the connection between the two games.
Dust 514 will feature a constantly changing battlefield and to arm yourself for the galactic warfront, players will have the ability to customize both vehicles and characters. You will have the opportunity to take on specialized roles in battle such as “logistics specialist” or “vehicle pilot”. If you like your war to be more personal, you can take the fighting straight to your enemy in customized assault armor. Gamers will be able to choose from multiples game modes, spanning from traditional multiplayer gameplay to campaigns for “interplanetary conquest”.
You will be able to upgrade your soldier, both online and offline, using skill-points that you earn in battle. Gamers will earn ISK that is used in the “primary market” or on a “secondary player-driven market”. Spend ISK to get better weapons, equipment, armor, turrets or “specialized enhancement modules”. Players will have the ability to upgrade their current gear, or purchase “prototype weaponry and equipment” to help them in battle.
Dust recently took the spotlight during the EVE Fanfest 2012, a two-day event in Iceland. At that event Brandon Laurio, Dust 514 producer, made several announcements pertaining to the Eve Universe and the “eSports” within the game.
Many of the expansions mentioned at the event are aimed for 2013. New environments will be added to the title including; frozen, lava or gaseous planets. The eSports gladiator arenas will allow gamers to watch 1-1 deathmatch modes, or capture the flag matches and bet on the outcome. The following video was shown at EVE Online Fanfest 2012.
Dust 514 will be free-to-play on PS3 with compatibility with PC title ‘Eve: Online’ and is set to launch sometime this year.
Falcon_Stormvoice thank you Falcon, that last line was supposed to mention the compatibility with Eve: Online, it has been corrected.
