A new First-Person action game from Bethesda Softworks and Arkane Studios is hitting consoles and PC later this year. We run down everything you need to know about the title in the latest edition of ‘Fact Check’.
Arkane Studios have ‘Dishonored’ slated for a 2012 release date, the title is coming to PS3, Xbox 360 and PC. You will play as a supernatural assassin who is out for revenge. The game will feature a “flexible combat system” allowing the player to use deadly gadgets, supernatural abilities and various weapons to take out enemy targets. How you kill your enemy will be up to you, whether it be a stealthy takedown, or direct-conflict firefight. Arkane Studios states that each of the missions will offer different outcomes “based on the choices you make”.
The story of Dishonored takes place in an industrial whaling city named Dunwall. It is in this city that you will discover twisted-plots and dark secrets that live behind the simple town’s exterior. Strange technology and “otherworldly mysticism coexist in the shadows” of this sleepy city, a city that you will discover as you explore the people and places surrounding you.
You will play as a former bodyguard of the Empress, who after being framed for her murder, becomes one of the most infamous assassins to date. To others you will be known simply by your “calling card”, a dark and disturbing mask that becomes your symbol. As you discover the town’s dark secrets, you will learn of a plague that is disturbing the city’s residents and fight against the government-regime that is oppressing the city. Armed with “neo-industrial technologies” these government authorities aim to bring you down before you can exact your revenge or learn of their secrets. Meanwhile shadowy figures offer aid to help you in your quest for revenge, aid in the form of supernatural powers. But can you trust them?
Dishonored offers a number of unique gameplay mechanics and key features. We run down the list from Arkane Studios below.
Improvise and Innovate
Approach each assassination with your own style of play. Use shadow and sound to your advantage to make your way silently through levels unseen by foes, or attack enemies head-on as they respond to your aggressiveness. The flexible combat system allows you to creatively combine your abilities, supernatural powers and gadgets as you make your way through the levels and dispatch your targets. Improvise and innovate to define your play style.
Action with Meaning
The world of Dishonored reacts to how you play. Move like a ghost and resist corruption, or show no mercy and leave a path of destruction in your wake. Decide your approach for each mission, and the outcomes will change as a result.
Supernatural Abilities
Teleport for stealth approaches, possess any living creature, or stop time itself to orchestrate unearthly executions! Combining your suite of supernatural abilities and weapons opens up even more ways to overcome obstacles and eliminate targets. The game’s upgrade system allows for the mastery of deadly new abilities and devious gadgets.
