Quantic Dream was introduced to the gaming world with their award winning Playstation 3 title “Heavy Rain”. Now the developers are set to bring their next AAA game to Ps3 in the form of ‘Beyond: Two Souls’.
Beyond took E3 by storm this year, announcing a Q4 release date, a very popular lead actress and releasing a new trailer for fans. It’s being called a “unique, interactive psychological thriller” and the trailer proved to be just that. Players will take the role of Jodie Holmes, who is a young girl that posses supernatural powers. These powers are from Jodie’s link to an “invisible entity”. At the E3 event this year, developers described the entity as a “spirit” or “ghost”, but it’s true definition will remain a mystery for players to uncover in the game.
Quantic Dreams states the game will take you through several events in Jodie’s life, these events happen across the globe, taking players to new locations that played a crucial role in shaping Jodie’s life. Player-choices will once again play a major role in the game. How and what you do will ultimately decide Jodie’s fate, and could lead you to discovering more about the psychic link between Jodie and the spirit, and it’s identity.
The starring role is voiced by Ellen Page who you may recently know from both Juno or Inception. Although it wasn’t shown in the trailer, Quantic Dreams states in a press-release that players will control both Jodie and the mysterious entity that gives Jodie her powers. Quantic Dream states, “take full control of Jodie as well as the mysterious entity in spectacular action adventure sequences.
The game will also work with Playstation Move, although footage was not shown at E3, the press-release contains the mark-up for the PS3 Move and PS3 Nav controller. Heavy Rain, Quantic’s last title, was also made Playstation Move compatible. You can take a look at the first footage of the game, in the E3 debut trailer for ‘Beyond: Two Souls’
The studio at Quantic once again aims to use ground breaking graphics, combined with intense story telling moments, to fully immerse players into the characters and their lives. The studio has already proven that it capable of telling deep, rich narratives while supplying fully developed characters to interact with the player. The dark overtones and supernatural abilities are a new twist for from their last title, and one that we are very much looking forward too.
