Video Games

Video gamesVideo games

Online casino games share many similarities to their video gaming older brother, in fact, most online casino games drew initial inspiration from the early versions of blackjack and poker back on the Commodore64 or Atari etc, with an early form of RNG’s being used. At the time these were the first computer games based on gambling games found outside of land-based casinos, and although you couldn’t get any casino bonuses or win real money on these video games, they were the latest tech of the time and gave players hours of enjoyment.

Fast forward to modern times and we find the world of video games, involving plenty of platforms, whether they are specialized or really widespread, have revolutionized the way we play games. With next-gen home video game devices now imposing their model (e.g, PS4 and Xbox One) and with most virtual reality gears expected to be released this year, the video game industry has never seemed so brilliant and powerful.

Never an industry has known such as increasing importance! But the growth of video games is not over yet and the emergence of both the Asian market and mobile games are enough to strengthen their position today. How can video games generate over $70 billion every year? Why are people so fascinated with video games? Well, maybe because video games cover all sorts of topics and genres. This is what we are going to see below.

Different genres of video games

By genres, we mean the extended variety of games that is available at the moment. Because of the complex video game classifications, we may also talk about subgenres (in fact a game can belong to many subgenres). Below though, we have grouped video games into what we think are the potential main categories you will ever find when talking about a video game.

The main categories of video games are 1. Action video games. Whether they are platform games, shooter games or fighting games, all action games center around the player who embodies a character. The player is in the heart of the action and the gameplay of action games is very dynamic. Such games require high eye-hand coordination skills. 2. Adventure video games. Games for purists, adventure games are about exploring a certain area in a non-confrontational way. Adventures games are not defined by their story or content but by their gameplay instead. Most adventure games are about solving puzzles or riddles and offer a mixture of item gathering/crafting. 3. Action-Adventure video games. Action-adventure video games are the combined union of the two different universes. Usually, the player has to overcome an obstacle using a tool or item he has collected beforehand but he is also likely to take part in several gunfights during the game. Stealth games and survival horror games are great action-adventure games. 4. Role-playing video games. In role-playing video games, players are the embodiment of a character who specializes in special skill sets. Together with other players, he will have to progress through a storyline and defeat several waves of enemies or obstacles. 5. Simulation video games. Simulation video games try to closely emulate aspects of real or fictional reality. The Sims™ is probably the most famous game of the genre though most of them can be classified into subgenres. Today we find a lot of sports simulation video games for instance.

6. Strategy video games. Careful thinking and planning are at stake in strategy video games. The player must think in advance if he wants to be successful. The closest cousins of strategy video games are board games. 7. Sports games. Sports games are video games that try to simulate sports. It is usually a player’s friend or the artificial intelligence that controls the rival team or athlete.

That’s it, you now know all the main video games categories. Let’s move to the next chapter.
